Hello Grade 2 families!

In the next few days we have some fun learning engagements. Yesterday we talked briefly about the election. This connects to our next unit of inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves, as we will look at our local government and different jobs/careers. We hope to learn and inquire about how the government of the City of North Vancouver is organized and how our local government makes decisions.

Each class will be electing a mascot during this unit of inquiry; the purpose of this election is to introduce our students to the basic principles of a real election. The program is provided by Elections Canada.

We hope that you are able to help our grade 2 students as they start thinking and inquiring about how our community is organized.

If you are able to share with our classes about your job/career we would like to invite you in to be a guest speaker.

In the past few years we have had an RCMP officer, the mayor, a council woman, a bridge engineer, a scuba diver teacher, a baker, a fire fighter, an artistic designer from EA Sports, a sound engineer from EA Sports, a BC Ferries captain, a poison control nurse, an operating room nurse and an emergency room doctor. If you are interested, able and willing to help us strengthen our understanding of the world around us and how it is organized, please contact your classroom teacher.

THIS WEEK IN GRADE 2: On Wednesday we will see the Planet Protectors presentation in the gym. On Thursday we will be attending a play at the Presentation House. Wednesday and Thursday we hope to start preparing the gardening beds so we can plant tulip and daffodil bulbs as part of our “Planting a Promise” program.

This week we start our “Kids in the Know” Program as well.
