Division 12 Mrs. Day

Classroom Expectations – Grade 2 Division 12

Welcome to Grade 2!   A few points of interest and classroom expectations that I would like to share with you:

Allergies – We do have students with nut allergies and shellfish/seafood allergies. Please ask your child to inform a staff member before eating nut products or seafood in class. We would like to keep our classroom safe for those with food allergies.

Doors –  Students may enter from any door around the school.  The first bell rings at 8:45am. School ends at 3:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday – and 2:17pm on Wednesday. Students will be dismissed from the doors on the East side of the school.

Library – On Mondays and Wednesdays we have Library with Mrs. Singh. Some children will take their books home and some children will put their books in their book box at school. Please help your child remember to return their books on this day so they may continue to take books out. It is a great way for them to learn to be responsible. In our class we have a bucket to collect the books for return to the Queen Mary School Library.

Careers –  iTime – On Tuesdays we have Careers and iTime with Ms. Mumford.

Gym – We currently have gym almost everyday. Please ensure that students are dressed appropriately to move and stay safe. To participate SAFELY in gym – all students need indoor runners. Outside shoes should not be worn in the classroom or in the gym. Boots should not be worn all day and especially not in the gym. Shoes can be left in our classroom for our students to wear each day.

Rainy Days – The students will be expected to go outside on rainy days for recess and lunch play time; wearing rain gear will help them stay drier. Having a change of clothes that remains at school or in backpacks will help if there are any accidents in puddles on a rainy day.

Headsets – Please send a pair of headsets to school in a Ziplock bag. We would like each student to have their own headsets. We do not recommend ear buds as young children have sensitive ears. Please send over the ear headsets that your child can wear comfortably when they are using our class Listening Centre, iPads and laptops throughout the school year. They will be returned at the end of the school year.

Healthy food for lunch and recess are encouraged. We encourage our students to have a water bottle with them throughout the day. Please continue to use reusable containers as much as possible. This helps to cut down on the amount of garbage we collect in the school.

North Vancouver City Library – We are visiting the North Vancouver City Library this school year. In past parents have been incredibly supportive of this initiative to get out into our community.

Parent volunteers are welcome to walk with us. Things run a lot smoother with parent support during walking to and from the library and checking out student books. If you are interested in helping please let us know and we will give you a volunteer form to fill out. This form is good for anytime you might want to volunteer during class activities.

Field trips – We will be planning Field trips this year that connect to our Units of Inquiry. If you can volunteer or have an idea/recommendation for a field trip please let us know. We will take the Grade 2 classes to Science World Friday, January 10, 2025 and to a local creek to release our school salmon in the spring. We hope to visit Lynn Canyon in early April. We will visit the Presentation House, City Hall and a Museum during our Units of Inquiry.

BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation – Our class will be Planting a Promise (daffodils) in November and in the Spring we will plant Spuds in Tubs.

More information about these events will come to you later.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, you can email Mrs. Cheryl Day, cday@sd44.ca or please send a note in your child’s agenda or speak to me about setting a time during the week to meet at school.
