Happy Friday! Thank you to all of our students for working so hard this week. It was a short 4 day week but we did some great work to start our first unit of inquiry in Grade 2 – Who We Are.

It was great to meet so many families during our Ice Cream Social and Open House on Tuesday. If you didn’t get a chance and you would like to “meet the teacher” please let me know via email or a note in your child’s agenda. We do try to make sure we check the agendas daily and use it as our main home-school communication tool.

Looking ahead to next week we wanted to remind you all of the following:

Wednesday Sept. 26th – 1st PAC Fun Lunch. You can order online from their website (Look for the Munch a Lunch Link) for the whole year now and enjoy “taking a break” from packing a lunch every other Wednesday. Please still send a recess snack and water bottle on Fun Lunch days.

Thursday Sept. 27 – QM Terry Fox Run – Assembly and warm-up at 2pm – Families are welcome!

Join us for our annual Terry Fox School Run for cancer research. We are proud to continue the legacy of one of our country’s greatest heroes. We hope QM families will join us on Sept 26th
for the run (or walk!). Support this wonderful cause by donating to our Terry Fox School Run fundraising page at: terryfox.ca/QueenMaryElementary
The future of cancer research has never looked brighter!

Friday Sept. 28 – North Vancouver City Library – Our three grade 2 classes (Divisions 11, 12, 13) appreciate it when our parents are able to join us on this walking field trip. We aim to depart as close to 1pm as possible to arrive at the library by 1:15pm. We usually return to QM at 2pm. If you can volunteer please let us know.

Monday Sept. 30 – Orange Shirt Day will be acknowledged on September 30th with a performance of The Children’s Blessing song in Cree. Families are welcome to attend the assembly.

A student requested the words to the song that we have just started learning this week.

We sing each line 3 times with different expression and emphasis used each time. Some students in Grade 2 may remember the tune already. We are hoping that students can practise if at all possible.

This song was written and composed by Sherryl Sewepagaham. (Words are provided with phonetic spelling)

The Children’s Blessing Song

Ya ha wey ya wey ya wey ya

Ya ha wey ya wey ya wey ya

Ya ha wey ya wey ya wey ya

Wey oh wey oh wey hey

Wey oh wey oh weh hey

Weh oh wey oh weh hey

ACTION: a student requested the words to take home to The Children’s Blessing Song. This is an example of action which is a dynamic part of the IB Primary Years Program at QM.

If you have an example of ACTION that is happening at home please inform us at school.

We love to capture the learning that trickles home when we reflect on the unit of inquiry.

A notice went home on Wednesday about the first Unit of Inquiry that we have now started: Who We Are.

Our central idea is: Self-awareness develops relationships.
